The escalating tensions between the two independent nations reached its highest point when the US invaded the sovereign territory of Venezuela and bombarded its capital under the pretense of drug-trafficking and narco-terrorism. A total of 40 casualties reportedly succumbed to the damage caused by US Airstrikes with civilians being caught in the crossfire. President Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife Cilia Flores, was unlawful and is currently still being detained by the United States military. The attack serves as the culmination of protracted pressure from the Trump Administration who then framed the operation as anti-drug measures but hinted at the possibility of regime change.
