Greenpeace Southeast Asia - Philippines Communications Campaigner Karl Orit confirmed that four activists from Greenpeace were available to leave detainment on bail but are currently facing charges for violating Batas Pambansa Blg. 880 also known as the ā€œPublic Assembly Act of 1985ā€ which requires the acquisition of permits in order to conduct mobilizations or demonstrations in public spaces.

The Climate Change Network for Community-based Initiatives stands in solidarity with our colleagues from Greenpeace Philippines and calls for the charges that are levied against them to be dropped by the corresponding officials.

CCNCI also vehemently condemns their unjust detainment and calls for their charges to be dropped as there is a rich legal history that has proven that BP 880 is but a mere state weapon in silencing critical voices. Furthermore, we also censure the passive stance taken by ASEAN Nations in addressing a worsening climate crisis.
